DGT Bluetooth e-board software upgrades
New USB cable
Some problems with the charging of the battery of the board were caused by the high resistance of the USB cable that came with the board.
If you haven't done so, please

, and you will receive a new USB cable, that will charge the battery more reliable.
After the DGT Bluetooth e-boards have left our company, some issues were discovered and reported back by the users of the new board. We are working hard to find solutions for all issues as soon as possible.
All these problems can be solved in the future by updating the software of the board. This is a simple procedure that can easily be performed by the user.
The latest version of the software can be found at: http://digitalgametechnology.com/site/index.php/Bluetooth-Board/View-category.html
For owners of the DGT Bluetooth e-board who want to be informed personally on upgrades, please send an e-mail to

The following issues are solved or known to us still to be open:
(check the version number with your DGT board tester)
Version 1.061
Version 1.061 has been removed from the download page because it does not handle the power up after a battery drain correctly.
If you already updated to 1.061, please overwrite it with version 1.05. A new release is expected soon. Our apologies for the inconvenience.
- Can be uploaded under Windows Vista and Windows 7
- LED flash pattern altered; when switched with the USB connected the LED will show short flashes to indicated that the battery is being charged, but the board is switched off
- The board will not freeze when disconnecting the USB cable with an active USB or Bluetooth connection.
Still open:
- Enabling Queen to read the board's memory properly, when pieces are slided over the board.
Version 1.05
Solved:
- The board will now switch on every time you plug in the USB cable
- You can give a "hard" reset by pushing the button for 10 seconds. The board will show a short red light and the blinking green or orange
- After installing this update you can update the next release with Windows Vista (or Windows 7) too. Until this version you need Windows XP to update.
Issues still open:
When the board is switched off and charged by USB, the LED is constant on, which is the same as when the board is on with good communication. (this will be changed to a short flashing LED)
Version 1.04 (built after 28/09/2009)
Solved:
Over Bluetooth communication, the DGT XL display messages are correct.
Battery charge problem
Issues still open:
- The indication of the LED is not accurate (it does not give unambiguous information).
- The board may remain switched off when the USB plug is being connected, (you will not hear the "USB device connected" sound then). Pushing the power button of the board will switch it on.
- No "hard reset" possible without disconnecting the battery
Version 1.03 (built after 23/09/2009)
Solved:
The board will be recognized in Windows Vista through USB
- Firmware can be uploaded through USB, Windows Vista (+ Windows 7) and Windows XP
- Wrong recognition of pawns
- DGT XL Clockdisplay messages over USBpossible and stable
Issues still open:
- Over Bluetooth communication, the DGT XL display messages are disabled.
- In some cases the battery will not be charged.
- The indication of the LED is not accurate.
- The board may remain switched off when the USB plug is being connected, (you will not hear the "USB device connected" sound then). Pushing the power button of the board will switch it on.
- No "hard reset" possible without disconnecting the battery
Version 1.01 + latest User parameters
- The wrong recognition of some pawns has been solved.
- Until now. version 1.1 cannot be updated to version 1.2 without a special programmer.
- Users who are using version 1.1 now have to wait a little until the update can be performed by USB, using a computer running XP
Version 1.01
- The USB port will not be properly recognized on a computer running Windows Vista or Windows 7.
- Some pawns are not recognized properly.
- Sometimes the Bluetooth COM port shows it is "invalid" in the board driver.
- In some cases the battery will not be charged.
- The indication of the LED is not accurate.
- The board does not send messages to a XL clock or will take a lot of time to do so
- The board may remain switched off when the USB plug is being connected, (you will not hear the "USB device connected" sound then). Pushing the power button of the board will switch it on.
- No "hard reset" possible without disconnecting the battery
We are working hard to solve all these problems and a new firmware file will be available soon.
There are some tools on http://digitalgametechnology.com/site/index.php/Bluetooth-Board/View-category.html to update the software to the latest version, which is better than original but not the final stage yet.
Your DGT Bluetooth e-board needs to be recognised on USB. If you have a version that has problems with USB on Vista, please look for a computer that runs Windows XP.
We are sorry that some boards left our company in state that is not flawless. We are trying to solve all problems as quickly as possible and will provide you with all the necessary tools to get your board working perfectly, even if this means that we have to replace your board. Please have a little patience.
PS: In case you use the DGT Bluetooth e-board stand alone for playing human versus human games you can read out the board's memory to reconstruct and analyse the games, but you may encounter a shortcoming of the program Queen.
Queen is not able to distinguish moves that are taken back or moves that are played by sliding pieces over the board. As soon as a piece is recognized on a square, Queen assumes that the move is done and will look for the next (half) move.
To avoid this problems never take back a move and lift the pieces and drop them on the target field without sliding. This will help you to find complete games in the board's memory with Queen.
An updated program to read out the board's memory will be available in the near future.
